Shuai Jiao - Learn to Trip, Throw, Takedown.

Coming Thursdays in March

The Art of Throwing

You asked. You shall receive. Many of you have requested knowledge on how to do takedowns. While we cover these in the San Shou classes periodically, we certainly do not get to spend enough time and energy on this important element of our arts. One that requires constant focus and attention just as our ground skills and striking. So with no further ado, our new Shuai Jiao class will be starting in March.

Learn to fall, roll, and avoid being thrown. Learn to trip, throw, takedown. Shuai means 'to throw' and is an integral part of San Shou, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In this class we will work on entries, setups, timing, breakfalls, sprawls, and of course,
the actual methods of throwing.
Thursday - 8:00 to 9:00 pm right after No-Gi class.

Uniform - we will be working techniques with, and without jackets (gi top) depending on the week. You do not need a gi in order to start the class.

If you are not currently, contact me to asap to upgrade to a Grand Dragon so you can attend this class and gain these valuable skills.

I look forward to working on these skills with all of you and I appreciate your interest and support.

Swamp Talks - Episodes 1-3

Episode 1 - Plateaus

Here we go. Episode 1 of Swamp Talks. The first episode addresses one student's submission regarding a very common problem in martial arts - The PLATEAU.

Episode 2 - How to Start Martial Arts

We're back. In episode 2 we are addressing a question - "How do I get started in martial arts?" This can be a confusing and sometimes intimidating experience. Check out this episode for ways to make this process/transition easier.

Episode 2

Episode 3 - Form vs Function

In episode 3 of Swamp Talks with Sifu, we answer a question submitted by one user on Forms in martial arts training (forms are choreographed sequences of techniques done in the air).

Are they important? Where do they belong in a training regiment? How much focus should they have in our training?

We address these issues, the use of forms as a primary method of training martial arts styles, and understanding martial arts as a living dynamic thing, rather than a static, empty art. #martialarts#swamptalks #forms

Swamp Talks Introduction

We're releasing an upcoming web series called 'Swamp Talks'. Why a swamp you ask? Well, there's a big one, right outside our door.

Often times there are questions we have during martial arts training, whether we're experienced, or just starting out. We will attempt to help answer questions about training practices/issues, roadblocks, styles, history, etc. based on the questions people submitted.

If nothing else, you may see one of us get bit by a snapping turtle. I hope not.

--The New York Thymes writes - "riveting, quirky, and highly edumucational. If you ignore the gunfire in the background."

The No Streets Journal calls it -  'ribbeting'.

The Travelling Mosquito says - "it doesn't get 'bogged' down by it's own gases."

Project: Benjamin

Congratulations to Benjamin for his continued success and progression. Benjamin is a creative kid with a kind heart. He has had to overcome many challenges, and a disciplined environment like Martial Arts, has not always been easy for him to function in. Through thick and thin he has stuck with it over the years, and today he was awarded his Red/White Belt in Tang Lang Quan, and his Orange Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Awesome job!
Congrats!
